Gathered Clutch

I was looking for a cute clutch pattern to make for my roommate Amy's birthday.  I found the Gathered Clutch Tutorial on Noodlehead blog and I just fell in love!  The original tutorial is fabulous, so no need to repeat it here. I slightly I changed a few things from the original clutch- I didn't add any inner card pocket or divider, I added a layer of fusible fleece to make it more sturdy, and I added a handle with a clasp.
My fabric pieces (all Fandango by Kate Spain), interfacing, fleece and clasp
Ruffled front and sash that will cover the stitching
I added medium weight fusible interfacing to the outer panels to keep the ruffles in place while sewing and attached the fusible fleece to the lining fabric.
This was my first time installing a zipper in a purse, so this is very exciting for me!  I bought a zipper that was a little too short, but I was able to make the end covers a little longer to make up for it.  One thing that I learned is that I need to buy a zipper foot for my machine, but I managed it pretty well.  I added a small loop with a D-ring at this point (on the left above the zipper) so a handle could be attached with a clasp.
Finished clutch with removable handle

I'm thinking about making a clutch for my sister in-law for x-mas, maybe I'll try this one out. Andrew's getting me a new sewing machine for xmas, and it is coming via UPS today!!!! Woohoo!
